White Sox rookie Yermin Mercedes, who was recently sent down to Triple-A, suddenly announced that he was "stepping aside" from baseball.

Mercedes was the White Sox player who was called out by his own manager, Tony LaRussa, for hitting a grand slam on a 3-0 pitch late in a blowout.

It only took LaRussa part of a season to ruin a guy's love of the game.  Impressive.

On the other hand if the manager's criticism is enough to cause him to struggle to the point he gets sent down to the minors maybe baseball isn't for him.
