It turns out there was a little more to Jon Gruden's emails than originally reported. On top of the insults he directed at NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith, he also sent out emails containing misogynistic and homophobic language.
Gruden apparently wasn't a fan of the emergence of women referees, the drafting of a gay player, and the tolerance of protests during the national anthem.
As a result Raiders owner Mark Davis decided to fire Gruden. The move was announced during the first half of the Monday Night Football game between the Colts and Ravens.
These were the emails the league sent to the Raiders, per source. NFL waiting to see how Raiders handle. https://t.co/LlhcOLi4kt

Raiders owner Mark Davis arrived at the team’s facility a couple of hours ago and went to find Jon Gruden, per source. The two men met. And Gruden no longer will be the Raiders’ head coach.

I said after the details of Gruden's first email was revealed that I didn't think it was necessarily racist. There wasn't a history of that behavior and it's not something you can hide. It will eventually be revealed.
Gruden's had some things revealed in his emails and the Raiders decided to part ways with him as a result.
