Tennessee dismissed starting linebacker Kivon Bennett following an arrest on gun and drug charges on Tuesday. The son of former NFL linebacker Cornelius Bennett was pulled over for speeding near campus.
After Bennett was pulled over a strong odor of marijuana led to the discovery of drugs and a Glock 17 in his vehicle.
Volunteers head coach Jeremy Pruitt released a statement announcing the team's decision to dismiss Bennett following the arrest.
From ESPN:
"Kivon Bennett has been dismissed from our football program following a traffic stop earlier [Tuesday]," Pruitt said in a statement. "There is a standard our student-athletes are expected to uphold at Tennessee, and [Tuesday's] incident fell well short of that standard."
This is how you flush a dream down a toilet. Bennett obviously had other plans than following in his father's footsteps.
It's unfortunate but he doesn't have anyone to blame but himself. You can't drive like an asshole with guns and drugs in the car.
