You didn't need to watch the Will Smith Oscar Winning Performance as the Williams' dad, to know the Williams sisters are important figures in tennis. I didn't watch the Will Smith Oscar Winning Performance as the Williams' dad and I know that the sisters are powerhouses in tennis.

It has recently been revealed what people have been expecting for a few years now, that Serena will be moving away from tennis. In an essay she wrote for sports publication Vogue Magazine, she said:

"I’ve been reluctant to admit to myself or anyone else that I have to move on from playing tennis,"

We don't know what is next for the beast in the court, I mean if you've watched her career over the years, she has dominated in record breaking ways, landing 23 Grand Slam titles.

Her plan is to focus on other things that are important to her, which she has not really given us any insight into.

She is however really rich, married to the man behind Reddit, who is also very rich, and with her level of celebrity, athleticism and competitiveness, she can probably dominate in anything she chooses to. Maybe even focus on raising their kid.

She is 40 years old, has had an amazing career to watch and seems sad about the decision, but obviously keeping things positive!

"I’m torn: I don’t want it to be over, but at the same time I’m ready for what’s next.”

Sometimes, the best move to make is the one you don't want to make, but knowing you could end up just fading away as you age out in your sport, is probably not as exciting as bowing out before any major injuries or weak seasons. There's something more graceful in retiring at the top, than dragging it out.

She has not specified when she is retiring, but has hinted that the US Open is probably going to be last for her! At least for now, since they all make the comeback tours.
