The Carolina Panthers are so confident in starting quarterback Sam Darnold that they're considering re-signing Cam Newton. So not that confident.
Newton filled in for an injured Darnold last season and went 0-5 as the team's starter. While the losses weren't entirely his fault, he proved his starting quarterback days were behind him.
There are two conditions that need to be met in order for the Panthers to re-sign him. According to the Charlotte Observer, the conditions are that he would not enter training camp as the starter and he would have to sign for much less.
I've said this before about the Panthers and I stand by it. They don't know what they're doing when it comes to the quarterback position.
Not pulling the trigger on a Baker Mayfield trade and keeping the door open on a Cam Newton return underscore that point.
