Padres OF Tommy Pham Took an 86 MPH Pitch to the Junk

SJ - July 29, 2020

In the 8th inning of last night's 5-3 Padres win over the Giants, San Diego outfielder Tommy Pham took an 86 MPH pitch to the junk.  He brushed off the Sam Coonrod change-up and took his base, but was relieved of his duties shortly afterwards by his manager.

The fact that it wasn't a fastball probably helped Pham out a little bit.  Even with a cup on, and I have no idea if he was wearing one, a fastball could have done some real damage.

Although I imagine a change-up to the junk didn't feel great either.  Nobody should be surprised if Pham misses a game or two with a bruised dick.
