Nathan Florence is the Surfer of the Year!

Nathan Florence was awarded Surfer of the Year at the Big Wave Awards held last weekend in Nazaré Portugal.

For the surf fans, you are probably very aware of the wave in Nazaré that was made popular by another surfer named Garret McNamara over the last decade or so. They even have an HBO series that has multiple seasons about the wave. It's just that crazy.

Over the last 12 months, Florence has documented being at every swell that happened. He went from country to country in pursuit of the biggest and best and he got Ride of the Year in Ireland.

He put out a video around his acceptance speech for the Surfer of the Year.

He thanked his wife Mahina Florence for putting up with his antics.

His journey has been shaped by the surfers/legends who came before him, whose footsteps he followed while forging his own path in the sport. He's drawn inspiration from their achievements, learning from their experiences and building upon their legacy.

His commitment has not only elevated his career but also contributed to the sport's growth.

Nathan you are UNSTOPPABLE my love! From bouncing back from gnarly injuries to charging life-threatening waves on lack of sleep to smoking all of us in workouts and bike rides, you truly are my specimen/superhero.

As your wife, best friend, and unwavering supporter, there's nothing that brings me greater happiness and honor than witnessing your boundless happiness and success. It’s been a privilege being your right-hand woman, standing by your side through every stage, I truly cherish every moment of this incredible journey.
