There wasn't much defense played on Saturday night during the Alabama-Ole Miss game in Oxford. Lane Kiffin's match-up against his former head coach Nick Saban resulted in a 63-48 Alabama win.
After the game Kiffin joked with his former boss about the lack of defense. The two shared a quick laugh before Kiffin says he told Saban to go win it all.
From Saturday Down South:
“I would’ve never guessed this (offensive shootout),” Kiffin said. “I joked with Coach (Saban) afterwards, I talked to him like, ‘Hey, I thought they played defense in the SEC.’ Just joking with him because he was kind of laughing about the defense.”
Later Kiffin also added more insight into the postgame conversation.
“I don’t need to say exactly what he said (to me after the game), but it was pretty cool to hear what he said. And I just told him, ‘Hey, go win it all.’ They’ve got a great team. They’re going to be hard to stop. And they’ve got a chance to win it, so I told him to go win it all.”
This is either a preview of things to come between Kiffin and Saban or bulletin board material for Saban. I'm going to go with bulletin board material.
Expect Saban to attempt to crush Kiffin and sprinkle his dust all over the field the next time the Tide faces Ole Miss.
