The NFL and the NFLPA haven't yet finalized all of the protocols to play this season during a global pandemic. One of the possibilities is that league could require players to wear face shields this season.
If that's the case the season might be played without Texans star J.J. Watt. He isn't a fan of face shields and told Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio that he doesn't think he'll play if face shields are required.
From Pro Football Talk:
“My second year in the league I thought it’d be cool, I put a visor on my helmet,” Watt said during a Wednesday visit to #PFTPM. “I was like, ‘It looks so cool, I wanna put a visor on.’ I had it on for about three periods of practice and I said, ‘Take this sucker off I’m gonna die out here.’ . . . So now you’re gonna put something around my mouth? You can keep that. If that comes into play, I don’t think you’re gonna see me on the field.”
Is it the face shields or does J.J. not love the game as much as he pretends to? I mean it sounds like he's looking for any way out he can find.
A guy who loves the game is going to find a way to make the face shield work.
