Social went crazy over the weekend after a video appeared to show a Rockies fan yelling the n-word at Marlins outfielder Lewis Brinson. I wasn't so sure so I didn't jump in on the madness.
For starters it didn't sound like n-word to me. Also what kind of racist maniac would be yelling it loud enough for the broadcast to pick it up. Wouldn't that have caused a scene?
There were too many red flags and I decided against posting it. Well it turns out I was right. Thank you, but the applause is unnecessary. The fan did yell something very loudly, but instead of a racial slur he was yelling "Dinger."
The video is pretty clear that he was attempting to get the Rockies mascot, Dinger's attention.
NEW: The Rockies tell me last night’s incident was a fan shouting to get the attention of the Rockies mascot Dinger, not a racial slur. The Rockies have spoken to the fan who confirms this is the case. They’ve also reviewed video from the local broadcast. #9News

Way to go social media. Talk about misinformation. It's a good thing it didn't reach the point of doxing the guy for trying to get the attention of a mascot.
