The debate over the Washington Redskins team name has been a long running one. It died down a few years ago, but is front and center once again due to the recent social unrest.
FedEx, who is a major sponsor and whose CEO is a minority owner of the team, has officially asked the team to change their name.
Why is FedEx asking the Redskins to change their name such a huge deal? FedEx CEO Fred Smith is also a minority owner in the Redskins. pic.twitter.com/pDDRbPmxYC

Luckily for the team formerly known as the Redskins, they received plenty of help from Twitter on what to rename the team. Some suggestions were a little more serious than others.
My vote:
1) Washington Redtails (keeps httr)
2) Washington Redhawks (keeps httr)
3) Washington Defenders
4) Washington Sentinels
5) Washington Warriors https://t.co/QDdbz40MzX— Cameron Magruder (@ScooterMagruder) July 2, 2020

My official proposal for the @Redskins new name... simply change one letter. @RealSkipBayless The Washington Redskips. #namechange pic.twitter.com/MjydsF2CtY

If Washington owner Dan Snyder ever gets his head out of his ass, I hope they change the team name to Redtails. Redtails was the nickname coined for the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African-American military aviators in the United States Armed Forces. pic.twitter.com/5cP1yTVxkO

I say you stick with the Redakins name but make it the Redskin Potatoes. That way you drop the racist connotation but don’t have to do a ground up rebranding. And you win over all culinary community as new fans. pic.twitter.com/KN7nexUs73

Maybe they should simply go with what some of the media has already been calling them, the "R-words." That would seem to fit owner Dan Snyder.
