The Denver Broncos reached out to free agent linebacker Clay Matthews after Von Miller went down with an ankle injury that could cost him the entire season. Denver came away from those talks under the impression that the 34-year-old wasn't going to play.
Denver expressed interest in signing former Rams’ and Packers’ LB Clay Matthews, but was told he is “not going to play,” per source. Matthews would have been a strong replacement for the injured Von Miller.

That's not the case according to Matthews' agent. His version of events was that they weren't able to reach an agreement but the former Packers and Rams linebacker remains open to playing in 2020.

These are my favorite kinds of exchanges between teams and free agents. Matthews isn't the player he once was or everyone wanted him to be anymore, but used in the right way he can still get to the quarterback. He proved that last season in Los Angeles.
