The Kansas City Chiefs are handing out a ridiculous amount of money this off-season.
After signing quarterback Patrick Mahomes to an insane contract that could reach more than $500 million, they paid their most important defensive player Chris Jones.
The Chiefs defensive lineman landed a 4-year deal, worth up to $85 million. Jones immediately made some bold claims about the future in Kansas City.
In doing so Jones jinxed the Chiefs. He said during a radio interview that they're going to bring five-plus rings to Kansas City.
From Pro Football Talk:
Appearing on KCSP 610 Sports Radio, Jones made a bold vow for the future performances of the defending Super Bowl champions.
“This is only the beginning,” Jones said. “We plan to have another parade and another parade and another parade. We’re going to make sure we bring not one, not two, not three, not four, but five-plus rings to Kansas City. It’s been 50 years of waiting, but the wait is over now. It’s time to create a dynasty.”
The only thing that Jones can do that would make things any worse would be to tattoo the five-plus championships on his body ahead of time.
These bold statements, and pre-emptive tattoos for that matter, don't often play out the way people hope they will.
