Canada Just Made Their Football a Little Wimpier!

I don't know if anyone really takes Canadian Football all that seriously. I know it's where NFL dreams go to die, or where the Rock went before deciding that football wasn't really going to get him where he needed to go, so he turned to wrestling.

That's not to say there haven't been top tier players or even exciting games, who would know, since no one is watching. I assume that there are many passionate and dedicated fans and players who gave their life and career to the league, their team, the sport, it doesn't mean they were right, it just means they were there.

Anyway, the CFL has decided to add a SECOND helmet, on top of their existing helmets, as part of new uniform code. It reminds me of double bagging it, a condom on a condom to prevent the AIDS, or even like some kind of apparatus used to attach to a penis to give it more length. Ultimately, it makes me think "dickhead".

This is obviously a strategy to double protect the heads of players, to prevent CTE and to take that next step in safety in the sport, when I am of the school of thought that they shouldn't be wearing helmets at all. That's what they are paid for, not to be little wimps.

The CFL Commissioner in CLOWN costumes said “Our players are our game’s greatest ambassadors, both on and off the field....We must continue to explore new equipment, technology and best practices to help ensure they are physically and emotionally able to have long and successful careers."

It seems like this is only for training camps, not real games, so I guess no big deal for the health of your brain, but that doesn't mean it looks any less ridiculous.

You also know that their "Guardian Caps", which is what they are calling them, in a give it a fancy super hero name and people won't feel lame wearing it, will end up in regular games one day.

For the 2023 season, the CFL has mandated use of the Guardian Cap by offensive and defensive linemen, running backs and linebackers during CFL Training Camps, as well as all contact practices during the regular season. Players at other positions may choose to wear the product, but they are not mandated to do so.

More on the Guardian Cap:

The Guardian Cap is a padded shell affixed to the outside of the helmet. Research has shown that when worn by one player, the Guardian Cap reduces the severity of impact by at least a 10 per cent reduction, and by at least 20 per cent when worn by both players.
