The Buccaneers were thin at wide receiver at the end of the season last year after Chris Godwin suffered a torn ACL and Antonio Brown ran off the field in the middle of a game.
This caused Bruce Arians to reach out to a future Hall of Famer he used to coach in Arizona. The now retired head coach said on Arizona Sports 98.7 that he called Larry Fitzgerald.
Fitzgerald informed his old coach that he wasn't in any shape to play.
From Pro Football Talk:
“When we lost our guys, especially when Chris Godwin got hurt, I called Fitz. He said, ‘Coach, I couldn’t run two plays right now, but thanks.’ I said, ‘I just had to check,'” Arians said today.
It looks like Fitzgerald's career might be over. The 38-year-old 11 time Pro Bowler didn't play at all last season and it sounds like he didn't keep himself in shape either.
