Broncos running back Melvin Gordon is missing Sunday's game against the Patriots, but not because of his recent DUI arrest. The Broncos don't plan on disciplining him for that.
Gordon has strep throat and didn't make the trip to New England. The fact that the Broncos won't punish him doesn't mean the NFL won't hand down a suspension for the arrest.
From NFL.com:
The team doesn't plan to fine or suspend Gordon, sources say. He handled himself well after the incident, apologizing to everyone from teammates to president of football operations/general manager John Elway to team president/CEO Joe Ellis. And he was on track to play Sunday against the Patriots before showing up ill Friday.
A suspension could cost Gordon a lot of money. The Broncos would have the ability to void the $4.5 million he is guaranteed next season.
The good news for Gordon is that the Broncos don't appear to care about driving under the influence. If they're not going to punish him they probably aren't going to void his guaranteed payday.
