Could Baker Mayfield be headed to an AFC North rival? It could happen. If the Browns are forced to cut him the Pittsburgh Steelers would reportedly be interested in signing him.
Browns reporter Mary Kay Cabot dropped this nugget on the "Orange and Brown Talk" podcast on Monday. According to Cabot, the Steelers would love to have Mayfield, but won't be trading for him.
From Larry Brown Sports:
“The Steelers will pounce on Baker Mayfield if he becomes available,” Cabot said (5:40 mark). “Like if they cut him and he’s just out there as a street free agent, [the Steelers] would take him in a minute. And I’m sure a lot of people would. If you could get him for nothing, and the Browns have to eat that money, then certainly somebody would go grab him in that scenario.”
I'm not sure how well Mayfield would be received by Steelers fans. He's a better quarterback than anyone they have currently on the roster, but he's a Browns quarterback and nothing creates hatred like a rivalry.
