Baker Mayfield is still on the Browns roster. The issue trading the former No. 1 overall pick has come down to money. Cleveland doesn't want to be on the hook for the majority of his $18 million plus he is due next season. On the flip side, potential landing spots don't want to pay a ton for his final year under contract.
The trade market for Mayfield is "quiet, for now" says a league source.
Mayfield has been rehabbing from offseason shoulder surgery on his non-throwing arm in Texas waiting for a trade partner to emerge. One NFC team in need of a quarterback is still interested. An interest he shares.
The interest between the Seahawks and Mayfield is mutual, according to league sources.
The Seahawks’ depth chart at quarterback dictates this situation as much as anything. The Seahawks have Drew Lock and Geno Smith currently competing for the starting job.
It's ridiculous to me that a team isn't willing to take a shot on Mayfield. He might be a bit of a gunslinger, but he's a gunslinger who has proved he can win games in the NFL. It will be insane if he sits on the Browns roster all season.
