TENNIS
Tex Hollywood - September 30, 2022
Tennis is packaged as this sophisticated, high society, classy sport. Sponsored by Rolex and BMWs and followed by the kind of people who attend garden parties at the country club. It's a great sport, but it's history is very pretentious and thus their traditions that have carried into the new era can be a little stuffy. From people like McEnroe being given penalties for showing some angry emotion, to people like Agassi being given penalties for wearing neon, or the whole Williams sisters pushing the outdated dress codes as part of a viral stunt for her sponsors, the tennis league has done their best to keep it as dignified as possible!
Unfortunately, we're not a dignified society and everything is made better when it is full contact, making me wonder when someone will launch a full-contact tennis league, the people are ready for it!
Which brings us to our story that took place at a ATP Challenger event in Orleans, France when Corentin Moutet and Adrian Andreev finished their match, they shook hands as per protocol, but clearly in a way that was aggressive enough to trigger the other player into throwing shoves!
Pretty hilarious!
Moutet defended his actions on instagram saying - “I wish to make no apologies for what happened late in the game...When a player says ‘f–k you’, twice while looking at me in the eye, I can’t help but make him understand in my own way that is not done.”
