Almost immediately following the Rams Super Bowl victory there were rumors that Aaron Donald was going to retire. He said he wanted to run it back during the Super Bowl parade, but retirement appears to be very much on the table. If a new deal with the Rams can't be reached this offseason, Donald said during a recent episode of the “I Am Athlete” podcast that he would be "at peace" with retiring.
"I don't need to play football to be fine. I was blessed to play this game, to make the money I made, the accomplishments I made in eight years is, like, I'm complete. If I can win another one, that's great. But if not, I'm at peace."
The Rams could still reach an agreement with the star defensive lineman, and there have been reports that progress on a new deal has been made, but as of right now there isn't one in place and retirement is on the table. If the Rams want a shot at repeating they better figure out how to get a deal with Donald done.
This could be Donald's way of forcing a little urgency on the Rams. You would think that they wouldn't need any motivation, but apparently they do.
