Tex Hollywood - December 14, 2023

New Orleans based antique dealer Lyndon Lasiter of M.S. Rau Antiques is selling a Super Bowl XXXVI Commemorative Football, which took place in New Orleans in 2002.

The ball doesn't seem to have seen any game play, but it was on site during the game and the team's doctor had the entire team sign the ball, 32 of the signatures are authenticated.

The ball has been authenticated by the team's doctor and there is no word on how deflated the ball is, but if you're into it, it can be yours for a cool $68,850, which seems like a lot of money, but probably a steal to some rich billionaire Brady fan like Brady himself!

Here's what the official listing had to say:

This Super Bowl XXXVI Commemorative Football is an extraordinary artifact of sports history. This football was present during one of the most legendary games in NFL history, stewarded by the hands of beloved New England Patriots team physician, Bertram Zarins, M.D. During the exit physical examination of Patriots team players following Super Bowl XXXVI in February 2002, Dr. Zarins orchestrated an impromptu signing session, immortalizing the moment of triumph for the team. Thirty-two fully authenticated autographs grace this magnificent football, commemorating the historic Super Bowl held at the Superdome in New Orleans.

The ball is accompanied by its original letter written and signed by Dr. Zarins, Augustus Thorndike Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Harvard Medical School and Chief of Sports Medicine Service Emeritus at Massachusetts General Hospital. The letter validates the provenance and authenticity of this one-of-a-kind football. It is housed within an acrylic protection encasement and internal positioning stand, allowing for display alongside a photo of Dr. Zarins and Tom Brady. Further, a PSA/DNA Letter of Authenticity, complete with a tamper-evident label bearing a unique alphanumeric certification number (Certification #AN01146), solidifies the legitimacy of this sports relic.

Apart from the personal circumstances that led to the ball’s signing, it hails from the New England Patriots' famed triumph in Super Bowl XXXVI, held on February 3, 2002. The underdog Patriots, led by a very young Tom Brady, defeated the Los Angeles Rams 20-17. The thrilling game, tied 17-17 with 1:30 on the clock and no timeouts remaining, culminated in Brady's legendary drive and Adam Vinatieri's game-winning 48-yard field goal as time expired. Brady's MVP performance marked the beginning of a historic dynasty, ranking this Super Bowl among the most important games in NFL history.

The relic features 37 signatures, with 32 of them meticulously identified and authenticated by the eminent sports authentication authority, PSA/DNA Authentication Services. Noteworthy signatories include Tom Brady, Adam Vinatieri, Richard Seymour, Tedy Bruschi, and Kevin Faulk, among others.
