Britney Griner Gets Sentenced and President Biden Responds!

In one of the more viral stories, especially in our current climate of wars in Russia, making it a hot topic for all you media consumers out there, WNBA star Britney Griner who stupidly travelled into the country with a controlled substance, which is something that gets you proverbially fucked.

I don't know the details of the case, but if you ever saw Brokedown Palace, starring Claire Danes and base on a true story of a surf girl Australian getting busted for bringing drugs into Bali that she claimed she didn't know were there. Then there's Midnight Express that I saw when I was a kid and that put the fear into me that when in other countries, do not break any laws, because holy shit, it ends bad, even if the conjugal visits are fun, it is still shitty prison experience.

So to me, going into a country with a weed pen, a joint, a prescription pill they may not honor is just playing Russian Roulette and it can bite you in the ass, whether you're a star athlete or not.

Didn't Jonathan Rhys Myers and the heir to CocaCola just go down for bring weed seeds into the Caribbean? I mean there are rules, there are laws, you gotta follow them.

Which is why the outrage doesn't make sense to me but it's still a sad story, a sad outcome to a stupid mistake, because the Russian Hammer has dropped and she has been sentenced for the 9.5 years in prison that they prosecutors were asking for her to get.

Obviously, there are political implications, trading prisoners for basketball stars, outrage about how injust the world is for women athletes, because people think this wouldn't happen to the much richer Lebron if he went to Russia with drugs.

It is possible that the Russians are being more aggressive because of the whole everyone supporting Ukraine thing, giving the maximum sentence.

"Today, American citizen Brittney Griner received a prison sentence that is one more reminder of what the world already knew: Russia is wrongfully detaining Brittney. It’s unacceptable, and I call on Russia to release her immediately so she can be with her wife, loved ones, friends, and teammates. My administration will continue to work tirelessly and pursue every possible avenue to bring Brittney and Paul Whelan home safely as soon as possible,"

I am sure Griner will not be waiting out that sentence, the diplomats will come in to help her, but it is definitely a crazy story that will make more Americans hate Russia and support the war there, which is what they want and remember kids, drugs are bad! Okay..
