The NFL offseason has been a crazy one in more than one way. The huge contracts being handed out to wide receivers is definitely one of those ways. That's led to several young stars who are due for contracts to start that process.
Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp had an insane season last year that he capped off with a ring and a Super Bowl MVP. With two years left on his current deal the contract talks with Los Angeles have already started.
The Rams want him to stay beyond the next two years and from the sound of if Kupp wants to stay in LA too. He addressed his contract situation and indicated that he's not looking to reset the already insane wide receiver market.
From ESPN:
"I don't think that's really kind of the approach that I take," he said. "I definitely think there's a place you want to be. There's a place that you feel like is fair. A place for me and for this organization. ... I'm not trying to beat anybody. I'm not trying to compare myself to anyone else. It's more about being in a place that's just right for both sides."
I don't know if this is the best strategy for contract negotiations, but Kupp's play has already done a lot of talking for him. He's going to get paid no matter his strategy for contract negotiations.
