Baseball is back and we didn't have to wait long to see how soft the sport has become. Nationals pitchers hit three Mets hitters with pitches, the last one coming with two outs in the 9th inning.
Pete Alonso took a 95 MPH fastball off his shoulder that then glanced off of the extra protective helmet thing. All good right? Dust yourself off and take your base. Nope. Not in 2022.
The manager runs out, puts his arm around him, gives him pacifier then walks him to the dugout. Then the crying from the dugout starts. Don't believe me? Watch.
Pete Alonso has left the game after getting hit by a pitch.
Starling Marte voiced his displeasure, as it's the 3rd time a Nationals pitcher has hit a Met tonight. pic.twitter.com/eP6uMW6wky

Come on. What is the protective thing for if you can't take a glancing shot to it? Didn't a guy back in the day get struck by lightning during a game and finish the game?
Hope Alonso put some ice on it.
