Giants new general manager Joe Schoen turned heads on Tuesday when he revealed that running back Saquon Barkley is available for trades. He will entertain phone calls on a potential trade for Saquon if the phone rings.
That doesn't necessarily mean a trade will happen. Barkley is entering the fifth-year of his rookie contract and will probably want to explore his options when the time comes, but he could be hard to trade due to his performance last season.
From ESPN:
Among the possibilities appears to be moving Barkley, who is guaranteed $7.217 million on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract for 2022.
"We're still working through that, but I'm open to everything," Schoen said. "Like whether it's trading player for player; I'll listen to anybody. If it's trading a couple players -- I'm not going to say the entire roster, [that] we're open for business on the entire roster. But if anyone is going to call and they're interested in any of our players. I'm certainly going to listen.
"Again, we're in a situation where unfortunately we have to get under the salary cap. We're not in very good salary-cap health. Again, I'm not going to say yes to every deal, but I'm definitely going to listen and be open to the situations that are best for the New York Giants."
Despite Schoen's willingness, NFL insider Ian Rapoport doesn't see the Giants trading Barkley. They will certainly be making moves, but the running back isn't expected to be one of them.

Saquon isn't in any position to try to force a trade, but he has to be looking forward to getting out of New York as soon as he can. As most guys currently on the roster are.
