Troy Aikman was expected to leave FOX after his contract expired at the end of the NFL season. Amazon was his expected destination. That was until Wednesday night when it was reported that he was nearing a deal with ESPN.
According to reports, Aikman's deal will make him Monday Night Football's lead analyst and pay him a contract that is as much or more than Tony Romo's deal with CBS Sports.
From Bleacher Report:
The New York Post's Andrew Marchand reported Aikman is expected to join ESPN on a five-year deal that would see him move to Monday Night Football. Marchand added that his contract is "expected to approach or exceed" Tony Romo's 10-year, $180 million pact with CBS Sports.
The deal is reportedly near completion.
Romo's massive payout underlines how it's a good time to work in NFL broadcasting. His CBS contract will exceed his career earnings in the NFL ($127.4 million).
Aikman on Monday Night Football just means that instead of getting Troy Aikman and Joe Buck over with in one day, we now have to spread out the pain into Monday night. I don't know what we've done to deserve this, but we need to figure it out and fix it.
