The Cowboys cut two quarterbacks following the preseason. Yesterday they added a former Panthers quarterback, but it wasn't Cam Newton. They instead picked up Will Grier off of waivers.
There current quarterback room is Dak Prescott, Cooper Rush and Will Grier. It would seem that adding Cam Newton would be an upgrade over their current backup situation.
But don't count on that happening anytime soon. Head coach Mike McCarthy has watched the tape on Cam, thinks he has a ton of football left, but isn't interested in signing him.
Mike McCarthy, asked about Cam Newton:
“I think he has a ton of football left. But we’re very excited about the group that we have."

You really have to wonder if McCarthy changes his tune or wishes he had a Cam Newton on his roster if/when Dak goes down with an injury. There's no way he's going to be confident running Cooper Rush out there.
