Cam Newton Has Been Released by the Patriots and Rookie Mac Jones Will be the Starting QB

So much for letting Cam Newton keep the Patriots quarterback seat hot for rookie Mac Jones. According to Patriots beat reporter Jim McBride, New England has released Newton and named Jones the starter.

Patriots have released QB Cam Newton as @globejimmcbride reported.

I think it's safe to say not many saw this coming, including Cam. He seemed to imply in an Instagram post just yesterday that he was the Patriots starting quarterback.

It wasn't meant to be. It's Mac and Cheese time in New England.
