On Monday Bill Belichick was asked a couple of questions about Cam Newton. His answers paint the picture that the Patriots starting quarterback job is Cam's to lose.
Belichick noted that Cam is way more comfortable with the offense. He added that someone would have to outplay Cam in order to take the starting job.
Question (via @coxcourtney on @TheGregHillShow): What have been Cam’s biggest improvements?
Bill Belichick: “First of all, offensively, we have a much better balanced team. We’ve added some players that bring an explosive element to our offense … Cam is way more comfortable…”

Question (via @TheGregHillShow): You’ve said Cam is the starter. What do you have to see, and when, for that to change?
Bill Belichick: “The fact that Cam started last year, and he’s here, somebody would have to play better than him. Training camp is all about competition. …”

Coming off the ass kicking of the Eagles where Cam went 8 of 9 for 103 yards and a touchdown, it doesn't appear as if anyone has done enough to take QB1 from him. People forget Cam played really well before getting COVID last season.
Assuming COVID doesn't come for him this year I expect a much more comfortable Cam to play more consistently this season.
