The Miami Marlins are set to resume their schedule on Tuesday after more than a week off due to a coronavirus outbreak that affected 21 members of the organizations.  CEO Derek Jeter addressed the outbreak on Monday.

According to Jeter, the outbreak was due to players becoming too relaxed and letting their guard down.  He denied the rumors that the Marlins went out for a night on the town in Atlanta.

From ESPN:

"Guys were around each other, they got relaxed and they let their guard down," Jeter said. "They were getting together in groups. They weren't wearing masks as much as they should have; they weren't social distancing."

Jeter said his players were upset by speculation that reckless misbehavior was to blame.

"Our guys were not running all around town in Atlanta," he said. "We did have a couple of individuals leave the hotel. We had guys leave to get coffee, to get clothes. A guy left to have dinner at a teammate's house. There were no other guests on site. There was no salacious activity. There was no hanging out at bars, no clubs, no running around Atlanta."

I love Derek Jeter, but forgive me if I don't entirely believe him.  If anyone would know how to cover up and keep salacious activity quiet it's Jeter.

Jeter played his entire career in New York and while he was known as a bit of a playboy, the worst rumor that came out was that he gave out gift baskets after a night with him.
